Clearance for 35 agro-based projects in Tiruchi

Our Correspondent

Madurai , March 27

THE State-level clearance committee for the New Anna Marumalarchi Plan has cleared 35 agro-based projects in Tiruchi district.

Disclosing the clearance of the projects at a seminar organised by the Department of Industries and Commerce at Tiruchi, near here recently, the District Collector, Dr Manivasan, said the clearance included the establishment of three modern rice mills at an outlay of Rs 31 lakh each and a milk chilling plant at an outlay of Rs 51 lakh.

While these units have already been commissioned, works on nine more industrial units are progressing at a faster pace.

He added that Small Industries Development Corporation (SIDCO) has set up an industrial estate for women at Vazhavandankottai in the district and sheds have been allotted to 26 entrepreneurs.

SIDCO is also involved in establishing another industrial estate for the production of finished leather goods at Kumbakudi Velayuthapuram, he added.

The Nabard Assistant General Manager, Mr P. Selvaraj, said that Nabard accorded top priority for organising training programmes for budding entrepreneurs and has spent Rs 1 crore for imparting training in seven industries. He urged the entrepreneurs to take interest in setting up cold storage facilities as the district at present had only one such facility.
