AP tourism policy `faulty'

HYDERABAD: The State Government has failed to assess the impact of tourism projects on environment, Mr Sashidhar Reddy, senior Congress leader, has alleged.

Addressing newspersons here on Monday, Mr Reddy cited two examples of Shymalakunta Park and Durgam Cheruvu projects where the Government developed parks.

The move had drastically cut down the catchment area, drying up bore wells in the area. "The Government did not go for any analysis that would have given the possible impact of these projects on environment," he said.

"The eight-acre Shyamalakunta park would become a 0.64-acre water body, comprising just eight per cent of the original tank area," he pointed out. He also contested the National Democratic Alliance's (NDA) promise to interlink major rivers in the country. "It is not viable," he said.
