Anti-drought programme in Kochi

KOCHI: The District Administration has embarked on several short and long-term programmes to counter the worsening drought situation in the district. As much as Rs 10 crore has been earmarked for such projects.

The programmes include constructing check dams on the Periyar, minor irrigation canals, cleaning of wells and ponds, rain harvesting, desalination plants, extension of water pipelines and project beings set up by the local bodies. A sum of Rs 37 lakh has been earmarked to compensate the agriculture crop loss in the district.
