Education GLIM to start programme in management next month Our Bureau
Chennai , March 30 THE first post-graduate programme in management at the Great Lakes Institute of Management (GLIM) will commence next month. The institution, started by Dr Bala V. Balachandran, a management guru based in the US, aims to fill the vacuum for a good quality business school in Tamil Nadu and to put it on par with business schools in the three other southern States the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) in Bangalore and Kozhikode and the Indian School of Business in Hyderabad. GLIM will offer a one-year full time programme, which will cost Rs 3 lakh. Applicants should have a bachelor's degree in any discipline from a recognised institution. Experience is desirable but not essential. All applicants should have appeared for the Common Admission Test conducted by the IIMs or the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) or the GLIM entrance test. Dr Paul Prabhaker, Associate Dean and Professor of Marketing, at the Stuart School of Business, told a press conference that the Stuart Graduate School of Business is one of the 28 institutions that is focussed exclusively on graduate level business education. He said that the need for higher education is likely to increase by the year 2020. Great Lakes Institute has tied up with Stuart Graduate School of Business for academic support. Dr R. Narasimhan, Deputy Dean, GLIM, said that there would be a faculty of visiting professors from India, the US and Asia. The alliance partner has also committed to send a faculty of six to the institute, he said. Its business advisory council comprises Mr Jamshyd N. Godrej, Chairman, Godrej & Boyce; Mr N.R. Naryana Murthy, Chairman and Chief Mentor, Infosys Ltd, Mr R. Seshasayee, Managing Director, Ashok Leyland Ltd, Mr Venu Srinivasan, Chairman and Managing Director, TVS Motor Company Ltd, among others.
