Adobe India to develop tools for mobiles

Bangalore , March 30

THE Indian subsidiary of publishing software giant Adobe Systems plans to take up development of digital imaging solutions for hand-held and mobile devices, even as it seeks to extend its ownership over more software products.

"We see new opportunity in developing digital imaging solutions for the hand-held and mobile space," said Mr Naresh Gupta, Managing Director, Adobe Systems (India) Pvt Ltd.

"The whole area of hand-held and mobile devices is exploding and we need to gain a foothold in that space," Mr Gupta said.

The Indian entity is aiming to be a primary owner of the digital imaging product in the mobile space.

Adobe India is planning to add two more core products to its portfolio by taking over the complete ownership of them. Adobe has already transferred the ownership of seven core products to the Indian subsidiary.

The India team has complete ownership for the PageMaker and Framemaker products and handles all phases of the new feature releases starting from conceptualising, designing, delivering and testing for all current and subsequent releases.

"We are looking at owning more and more of full products," Mr Gupta said.

The company has so far invested Rs 45 crore in its Indian operations and has close to 280 people.

"We expect to end the year with close to 400 people," Mr Gupta said. Currently, Adobe India accounts for 18 per cent of the Adobe's global workforce, which is expected to increase to 25 per cent by the year-end.

"We are doubling our headcount almost every 18 months," he added.
