Nicholas Piramal, IISc pact for drug research

PHARMA major Nicholas Piramal India Ltd (NPIL) has entered into a research collaboration with the Bangalore-based Indian Institute of Science (IISc) to identify potential new targets for developing drugs to treat fungal infections.

Meanwhile, the company has also appointed Dr Maneesh Nerurkar, as the in-charge of NPIL's formulations group that includes the New Drug Delivery Systems (NDDS) division.

On the collaboration with IISc, an NPIL communiqué said that Dr Parag Sadhale of the IISc' Department of Microbiology and Cell Biology would spearhead the collaborative effort. NPIL would have exclusive rights to commercialise any products coming out of this collaboration.
