Environment Green Building to house AP Forest Dept Our Bureau
Hyderabad , March 30 WITH the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) creating the first Green Business Centre near the Hitec City here, Hyderabad will soon have yet another Green Building coming up with an investment of Rs 10 crore. The Governor, Mr S.S.Barnala, today laid the foundation stone for a Green Building named Aranya Bhavan that would serve as the headquarters of the State Forest Department. The planners of this project hope to receive the famed `Green Accreditation' that is given in the form of a Platinum Green status rating from a US certification agency. The Governor said that the novel project would serve as a reminder of the importance and the multi-functional role that forests play in sustenance of life support systems. Andhra Pradesh, which boasts of a large variety of flora and fauna, would need the support of the Forest Department to help conserve the diversity and natural resources. The Managing Director of Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation, Mr L.V. Subramanyam, said that the project envisages 90,000 sq. feet of green office built-up space on 8,025 square yards of prime land. To be housed in the existing Forest Department office, the project is likely to be completed in about 12 months. The eco-friendly building would be housed in place of the 125-year-old building that currently hosts the office of the Principal Conservator of Forests and other forest department sub-offices. The building will be built with environment-friendly products and technology to ensure that resources are optimally used and minimum amount of energy is consumed for day-to-day maintenance of the building. Sporting a natural light and natural cooling systems, the building would be backed by solar energy and photovoltaic systems to meet power requirements. Effort would be made to minimise the use of wood with recycled wood and density fibres.
