Hyderabad , March 31

THE International Crops Research Institute for Semi-Arid Tropics (Icrisat) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the TVS Agri Sciences Research Institute, a non-Governmental organisation initiated by the TVS group, for improving agriculture in Thirunelveli district of Tamil Nadu.

According to the MoU, Icrisat will help the TVS institute with dryland agriculture, crop improvement and use of information and communication technology for development. The collaboration is for TVS Institute's farm, located at Ervadi and adjoining villages. The MoU was signed recently by the Icrisat Director General, Dr William Dar, and the advisor for TVS Institute, Mr Ashoke Joshi.

The MoU envisages that the two institutes will jointly develop detailed work plans and conduct seminars, workshops and training programmes. While the TVS Institute will provide the funds, Icrisat will provide the seeds of improved varieties, new tools and technologies of farm management and practices for certification trials and demonstrations, according to press release here.
