Kolkata, March 29

EVERGREEN Marine Corporation, a major container operator, has floated a subsidiary, Evergreen India Pvt Ltd (EGI), to take charge of the Indian operations.

EGI is to open its office in Mumbai on April 1, to be followed by branch offices in New Delhi and Nhava Sheva, according to sources. The shipping line's Indian operation was so far handled by Greenways Shipping Agencies, acting as an agent throughout India since 1986. EGI will not only absorb the staff so far employed by Greenways but will also take over the operation so far managed by the shipping agency firm, it is learnt.
