Our Bureau

Chennai March 31

THE Marina Towers, a 120-room business class hotel, located near the Egmore Railway Station, will open for business on April 2. Constructed at a cost of Rs 10 crore, it took almost 14 years to complete following some setbacks, according to the Managing Director of the hotel, Mr N.M. Ansari.

In the first phase, 56 rooms will be opened with an introductory tariff of Rs 1,300 for a single room and Rs 1,600 for a double room. The 75-cover multi-cuisine restaurant, Seven, reflects the musical heritage of Chennai as its theme and has two private dining rooms for larger groups of diners.

The hotel also has two banquet halls, Elliot and Covelong. The permit room, Upper Deck, which seats 35, is scheduled for launch in May.

The hotel's décor is contemporary and minimalist. Ms Sujatha Shankar, architect and interior designer, said that the décor was a reflection of the international trend, which tends to veer towards what is subtle and elegant. Every floor has a different colour scheme and the hotel rooms are around 360 square feet.

The Marina Towers is an unit of Ansari Estate Pvt Ltd, which has extensive interest in the garment business.
