AP Ordinance on vote-on-account promulgated

Our Bureau

Hyderabad , March 31

THE State Government has promulgated an ordinance that would pave the way for vote on account for the first quarter beginning April 1, 2004 till July end.

With the Andhra Pradesh Governor, Mr S.S. Barnala, giving his assent for the vote on account, an ordinance was promulgated. This would entitle the State administration to draw funds from the Consolidated Fund of India for the first quarter in the next fiscal.

Earlier this week, the State Cabinet, which met here for the last time under the caretaker Chief Minister, Mr N. Chandrababu Naidu, had passed a vote on account and the same was later forwarded to the Governor for his assent and issue of an ordinance.

It is learnt that the Government would be able to utilise about Rs14,500 crore during the first quarter ended July 30, 2004.

The State Finance Minister, Mr Y. Ramakrishnudu, said recently that the State, in exercise of its powers under Article 213 had passed the Ordinance. Once the new Government was formed during May 2004 after the elections in April, the regular budgetary exercise would be undertaken.
