Telecommunications Marketing - Promotions & Offers BSNL offers free SMS to landline customers in AP Our Bureau
Hyderabad , March 31
BHARAT Sanchar Nigam Ltd (Andhra Pradesh circle), on Wednesday announced the launch of free SMS services for its landline users, and hinted at offering lower pulse rate for landlines shortly. Announcing the service here, the Chief General Manager of BSNL, AP circle, Mr Sanjaya Kumar, along with officials said the SMS service will be available from April 1 free of cost to all landline users across the State. They can send and receive messages from anywhere in the country. However, landline users need to have base sets that support SMS service. Typically, these phones cost Rs 2,000 upwards or they could add a small device. Alongside this initiative, Mr Sanjaya Kumar said that by May, BSNL plans to roll out lower pulse rate service for landline users. This means against the existing three-minute rate charge a new slab of a one-minute pulse is planned. The user will be billed as per the usage and not for three minutes even though he uses for 30 seconds. Explaining the proposal for the new service, Mr Kumar said there is no plan to change the free calls, but this new pulse rate and free SMS will be an added incentive to look into in a landline. However, he refrained from commenting as to how long this service would be offered for free. BSNL also launched the telephone directory updated up to January 1, 2004. The Yellow Pages telephone directory was printed and published by IndiaCom Ltd, a Pune-based company. For the first time, this telephone directory is published in a user-friendly format, segregating residential and business volumes for easy reference.
