New Delhi , March 31

GAIL (India) Ltd on Wednesday announced the commissioning of the Dahej-Vijaipur pipeline project.

The 610-kilometre pipeline from Dahej to Vijaipur, constructed at a cost of Rs 2,936 crore in a record 14 months against the earlier schedule of 33 months, has the capacity to transport 23 million cubic metres of natural gas daily.

From Vijaipur onwards, the existing Hazira-Vijaipur-Jagdishpur (HVJ) network of GAIL will supply regasified liquefied natural gas (LNG) to consumers along the route till Delhi.

The project, according to a GAIL statement here, has been completed ahead of schedule so as to evacuate regasified LNG from Dahej. The first phase of the pipeline from Dahej to Vemar was completed on February 29 this year.

The pipeline construction activity was carried out simultaneously in four spreads. In addition to the project management consultant, Engineers India Ltd, the services of a reputed international consultant, Worley Ltd, Australia, were hired for monitoring the progress of the construction and ensuring the timely supply of material. As part of GAIL's commitment to quality, Bureau Veritas was appointed for third party quality assurance, the statement said.
