Vizag continues to top in throughput

VISAKHAPATNAM port has emerged as the number one in the country for the fourth consecutive year by handling 47.74 million tonnes during 2003-2004, the highest throughput ever handled by an Indian port, according to a press release.

The exports amounted to 21.4 m.t. and imports 19.31 m.t. during the year. The iron ore handling complex of the port set up a record by handling 10.65 m.t. On the whole, exports of iron ore and pellets amounted to 12.2 m.t.

A sum of Rs 55.65 crore was spent on plan schemes during the year, added the release.
