HYDERABAD: A public hearing on the issue of easy yarn access for the handloom weavers has been organised at the Institute of Engineers on April 3 by the Dastkar Andhra Trust. Testimonies from handloom weavers in Andhra Pradesh, perspectives from mills and the National Handicrafts Development Corporation will be supplemented with a panel of experts who would respond to queries.

The hearing intends to focus on the rising yarn prices, reason for it, weavers' problems and implications of yarn shortages. The handloom industry provides direct employment to 124 lakh weavers, according to a press release from the Trust.
