Poultry Drop in chicken sales in Visakhapatnam Our Bureau
VISAKHAPATNAM: There has been a drop of 35 per cent in chicken sales and 25 per cent in egg sales since February in Visakhapatnam city due to fears over avian influenza, according to a study conducted by the students of the Dr N.S. Kolla School of Business here. According to a press release issued by the school, 87 retailers and 586 consumers were interviewed during the survey. Since February, the price paid by the consumer had dropped by 29 per cent for chicken and 26 per cent for eggs due to the scare over avian influenza (or bird flu as it is known). Overall, there was a slump of 40 per cent in sales (chicken and eggs) in terms of rupees.
