Medical Institutions & Hospitals Interactive programme for gynaecologists in Coimbatore L.N. Revathy
Coimbatore , April 2 IT was not a documentary, but a demonstration of the latest procedures that obstetricians and gynaecologists could incorporate in surgeries, relayed live from Ahmedabad. About 100 doctors gathered at the Kuppuswamy Naidu Hospital here to take part in the interactive programme. The hospital management, according to Dr Suma Natarajan, Head, Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, extended full support by setting up a dish antenna to receive the signal via the satellite from Ahmedabad. "This is the first ever programme of its kind in Coimbatore. Gynaecologists from neighbouring districts such as Erode and Salem attended the programme to see for themselves how the technological advancements helped doctors perform the various procedures with ease," she told Business Line. The interactive live demonstration, while enlightening the specialists about the newer methods that they could follow in surgical procedures proved to be an eye opener for the youngsters in the medical field. "With the advancement in technology, surgical procedures also have become highly sophisticated today. There is greater awareness about some of the newer procedures among the public. This has necessitated the hospitals to invest on equipments for performing these procedures," she said and added that the investment was not high. She said that such programmes would become inevitable in future, as technological advancements in the medical arena were rapid and complex in nature. "Earlier, if a women had a problem with her uterus, the remedy was in removing the same. But today, it can be treated in most cases. There are various other complications and discomfort that women encounter. Each of these can be tackled using simple corrective procedures," she added. "Technological advancements are phenomenal including the satellite link live demonstration, which would have been a dream a decade ago," Dr Suma said.
