Nalco registers record production

NATIONAL Aluminium Company Ltd (Nalco), a major producer and exporter of alumina and aluminium, closed the year 2003-04 with a record production of 2,98,000 tonnes, an increase of 22 per cent, according to Mr S.K Banerjee, Director (P&T), and in-charge CMD.

He said here the company's bauxite mines had crossed the rated capacity to touch the record production of 48.15 lakh tonnes against the previous year's 47.77 lakh tonnes. Alumina production was 15.56 lakh tonnes during 2003-04 against 14.80 lakh tonnes the previous year and the power generation amounted to 5,121 million units compared with 4,291 million units in the previous year.

He said all targets had been surpassed during the year. On the aluminium export front, the company achieved a new landmark of 1,31,000 tonnes. The total metal sale increased by 20 per cent to 2,93,000 tonnes, an all-time high.

The company also exported 9,45,000 tonnes of alumina, earning the highest ever total export income of Rs. 1,660 crore.
