`Gold Card' facility for exporters in Karnataka

Our Bureau

Mangalore , April 4

EXPORTERS in Karnataka with good track records can now expect minimum inspections and speedy clearances by the Government for their proposals.

A press release by the Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry said here that the Commissioner of Commercial Taxes has implemented the "Gold Card" facility for exporters to move their consignments freely without any hindrance.

"Gold Card" facility, which was mooted as "Green Card" facility for exporters in the Export Promotion Policy 2002-07 of the State Government, can be extended to those having 100 per cent export-oriented units under the Exim policy of the Central Government.

Those having "Green Channel" facility with the Customs with an average turnover of Rs 1 crore or more in the last three years are also eligible for this. Even the manufacturers and processors can get this facility.

Under the "Gold Card" facility, trucks carrying cargo of the exporter will have minimum inspection at the check-post and they will not be detained. The cardholders will be issued statutory forms on demand without rationing.

Single window agency for all the departments of the State Government will make the task easy for the exporters in getting licence or permission.

Only the jurisdictional assessing officer could make surprise visit of the cardholders' units. Otherwise the visits will be conducted with prior intimation to the concerned. However, a senior official will verify information first.

The validity of the card — issued by the Commissioner for Commercial Taxes — will be for three years, and the cardholder will get a unique computer-generated identification code.

The release said that stiff penalties would be imposed on wilful defaulters.
