Manupatra.com decides to focus on marketing

New Delhi , April 4

LEGAL Web site Manupatra.com has now decided to focus on marketing in a bid to increase its subscription base from 800 to nearly 40,000 in the next five years.

As part of its efforts to make the Web site more popular, Manupatra Information Solutions Ltd, the company that runs the Web site, recently launched a CD-ROM version of the legal database and is trying to push the product in smaller towns through the direct selling route.

"The CD covers Supreme Court and High Court judgements across different subjects of law and Central Acts. It is targeted at markets where Internet connectivity is poor but computers have proliferated," the Manupatra Director, Mr Deepak Kapoor, told Business Line.

The company, which has about 800 subscribers and nearly 5,000 users (65 per cent of whom are lawyers), hopes that the CD version will help it penetrate the market better and help its subscription rise to 34,000-40,000 in the next five years.

"There are a couple of CD products available in the market for the Supreme Court. But individual High Court CDs across all subjects of law is the first of its kind in the country. We are offering a far better product at the same cost as that of a printed law journal," Mr Kapoor claimed.

While the judgements of the Supreme Court and several other High Courts are available in electronic form, Manupatra has to physically transcribe all the judgements of some courts, he said.
