Outlook TeamLease consolidating recruitment services Anjali Prayag
Bangalore , April 5 WHILE most companies in the people sourcing business have followed the predictable route of search, recruitment and leasing, TeamLease kicked off with leasing and is now consolidating its search and recruitment services. Explaining that this growth path was not a conscious effort, Ms Nirupama V.G., Executive Vice-President, TeamLease Services (P) Ltd, said, "It so happened that our clients in the temping business wanted us to fulfil their search and recruitment requirements and so we got into it." TeamLease, which now has over 80 clients, is already among the top 20 agencies in the country. "We are looking at being among the top five in the next two years," according to Ms Nirupama. Incidentally, the recruitment industry in the country, which is estimated at about Rs 700 crore does not have a single vendor who commands more than 10 per cent of the market share. "Just look at the huge scope of business before us," she said. Talking about the evolution of the recruitment industry, she felt that the search and recruitment processes had finally gained industry status. Even management schools are considering incorporating recruitment as one of the electives in their courses, she explained. The Bangalore-based TeamLease operates in the area of IT, banking, finance, engineering, retail, insurance and manufacturing. Ms Nirupama predicted that the IT industry which was on the threshold of a huge second wave, probably bigger than the first one, would see a more stable one this time. The recruitment process at TeamLease follows the rigorous procedure of skill mapping, grade equivalence, psychometric testing and reference checks. To ensure uniformity of service for a countrywide recruitment exercise, all 80 employees of TeamLease get a pre-document on the assignment on hand. After completion of the exercise, a post-document rollout goes out on what went wrong and right with the assignment. "This is preserved as a kind of case study," according to Ms Nirupama, adding that their success ratio is hovering around 2:5. TeamLease has a pan-India presence in the country with offices in Bangalore, Hyderabad, Delhi, Pune, Kolkata, Chennai, Mumbai, Ahmedabad and Chandigarh.
