IT Training Microsoft to spend $20 m on schools Our Bureau
New Delhi , April 6 MICROSOFT Corporation India Ltd on Tuesday announced the roll-out of its $20-million IT education programme for schools in India and an agreement with the Orissa Government for a programme to push local language computing in the State. Under the programme, Microsoft will provide free software upgrades to computers donated to schools, institute scholarships and set up Microsoft IT Academies in different States, the company Managing Director, Mr Rajiv Kaul, told reporters. The first IT Academy had already come up at Dehradun in Uttaranchal and the second one was ready for commissioning in Hyderabad. The company is planning to set up similar centres in Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Orissa and Madhya Pradesh. The memorandum of understanding that Microsoft signed with Orissa Government entails initially setting up basic support for Oriya language. It will be followed by development of an Oriya language interface pack for Microsoft Windows and Office.
