SAIL's RMD iron ore output up 8 pc

THE Raw Material Division (RMD) of Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) registered its highest ever production and dispatch during the financial year 2003-04.

According to a press release from RMD, its iron ore production was 12.78 tonnes marking a growth of eight per cent. The division dispatched 12.56 million tonnes, recording a growth of seven per cent of the last financial year.

Individually, the mines at Kiriburu, Meghahatubru and Bolani produced 3.61 million, 3.57 million tonnes and 3.31 million tonnes respectively marking growths of 14 per cent, 12 per cent and eight per cent.

"Kuteswar limestone mine has registered a growth of 27 per cent and 22 per cent in production and dispatch during the year," the press release stated.

In the current financial year, RMD has planned to supply 13.93 million tonnes of iron ore, which will be nine per cent higher than the previous year. The division has planned to open the Hill-3 of Kiriburu.

"Work has already begun for commissioning of 600 THP crushing and screening plant at Bolani. Loading factory at Bolani is also enhanced. Steps are being taken to start mining at Taldih. As a long-term strategy, prospecting work of South block at Kiriburu and Central block at Meghahatuburu has been taken up," the release added.
