Airlines Polar Air to carry Jet Airways' Colombo cargo Nina Varghese
Chennai April 8 POLAR Air, the US cargo airline, will carry Jet Airways' Colombo cargo from Chennai to West Asia, Europe and the US. Mr P.R. Subramaniam, Managing Director, Swiss World Cargo India (Pvt) Ltd, the general sales agent for Polar Air, said Polar Air had an agreement with Jet Airways for the domestic sectors and would enter into a special pro rata agreement for the Colombo leg. Polar Air operates three 747-200 freighters a week into Chennai. The aircraft flies in from Liege, its hub in Belgium, to Dubai-Mumbai-Chennai-Dubai and back to Liege. The airline's other hub in Europe is in Amsterdam and from both airports there are daily connections to the US, he said. The airline carries around 600 tonnes of cargo per month out of Chennai and this includes the trucked cargo from Bangalore. The cargo from Colombo will be in transit with the Customs clearance done in Colombo.
