Chennai Customs revenue

MADURAI: The revenue collection of the Chennai Customs (Preventive) Zone, consisting of Tiruchi Customs Preventive Commissionerate and Tuticorin Customs Commissionerate, has exceed the target by Rs 5.15 crore, during 2003-04.

According to the Chief Commissioner, Mr K. Prasuraman, the target fixed for the year was Rs 737 crore. By adopting various trade facilitation measures, the Tiruchi Customs Commissionerate has achieved a revenue collection of Rs 84.23 crore.

Besides, substantial revenue collection has also been mobilized from passengers arriving through Tiruchi Airport.

During the year, seizure of narcotic drugs valued at Rs 34 lakh and red sanders valued at Rs 44 lakh have been effected and commercial fraud cases involving a duty of Rs 1.84 crore have been detected.

The Tuticorin Customs Commissionerate has mobilized revenue of Rs 658 crore, exceeding the target by Rs 28 crore. Revenue collection is up by 27 per cent when compared to 2002-03.

High revenue yielding import commodities included copper concentrate, textile/printing machinery, raw cotton, wooden logs, vinyl chloride monomer, LPG, coal, palmolein oil and polyester fibre.
