Tata Motors sales up 43 pc in 2003-04

TATA Motors on Thursday reported a total sale of 3,14,256 vehicles (including export) for 2003-04, a growth of 42.9 per cent against 2,19,865 vehicles sold in the previous year corresponding period.

According to an official statement, domestic sales of commercial vehicles were up 43.7 per cent to 1,52,282 (1,05,960 units for the year ago period). M&HCV sales increased 39.8 per cent to 89,705 units while LCV sales rose 50.8 per cent to 49,026 units (32,510 units).

Total sales of passenger vehicles for the fiscal were up 34.4 per cent at 1,40,023 units, including cumulative sale of the Indica and Indigo at 1,08,169 units, a growth of 36.3 per cent. Sales of Indica since launch have crossed the 3,17,000-mark.

Total utility vehicle sales for the fiscal touched 31,854 units.

Export for 2003-04 was up 126.2 per cent to 21,951 units (9,704 units).

For the just ended month of March, Tata Motors had total sales of 34,714 units (27,547 units), a gain of 26 per cent.

In March, the company's commercial vehicle sales rose 51.2 per cent to 17,803 units (11,772 units), including sales of 12,279 M&HCVs and 5,524 LCVs. Passenger vehicle sales stood at 15,065 units, including 11,110 units sold of the Indica and the Indigo. Sales of utility vehicle in March amounted to 3,955 units. Export increased by 31.1 per cent to 1,846 units (1,408 units).
