Foreign Trade CII mission to visit S-E Asian nations to study GMP of top cos Our Bureau
Bangalore , April 8 AN 18-member CII delegation of manufacturing heads is shortly leaving for three South-East Asian nations to study the good manufacturing practices (GMP) of their top companies. The visit during April 12-17 would cover Singapore, Indonesia and China as part of `Competitiveness through manufacturing' mission organised by the CII Institute of Quality, the Bangalore-based institute said. Mr Ramesh Datla, Managing Director of Elico Ltd, will lead the mission that includes senior managers from Maruti Udyog, Tata Motors, National Thermal Power Corporation, Titan Industries Ltd and Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Ltd. In Singapore, the mission will visit light engineering companies that will showcase their best shop-floor practices. In Indonesia, it will explore new opportunities to improve ties. It will also interact with Batam & Bintan Industrial Park, Indonesia; the Economic Development Board, Yokogawa Engineering Asia Pte Ltd, HR Asia Pacific Ltd, Singapore Technologies Engineering Ltd, HP Asia Pacific Ltd, Tyco International Asia Inc. and Makino Asia Pte Ltd, Singapore; and in Shanghai, China, with Shanghai Volkswagen, Shanghai Mitsubishi Elevators, Shanghai Siemens Ltd and Shanghai Jahwa United Co Ltd. "Asia today is the plant of the world. The CII strategy includes learning from the best practices in manufacturing," the institute said. "The mission will visit companies that have done work on improving the efficiency of the manufacturing industry and built capabilities to develop new products in competitive ways." It would study how the Asian host companies have benefited from techniques such as Total Productive Maintenance, Kaizen, Six Sigma, New Product Development and Total Quality Management.
