ASUSTeK bets big on India

Our Bureau

Mumbai , April 8

INDIA received a mere 0.1 per cent of the total 30 million motherboards shipped last year by Taiwan-based ASUSTeK Computer Inc.

The company hopes to increase this substantially with the launch of its new product line. It has set a target of $200 million in sales by 2006.

"We are looking at shipping at least 6 lakh motherboards to India this year. The country represents a good market for ASUSTeK and our aim is to offer a complete product portfolio here. We expect to record $40-45 million in sales by December 2004," Mr Andrew Tsui, Managing Director, ASUSTeK India, said.

Outlining the product roadmap here, Mr Tsui said the new product line includes ASUS Wi-fi (wireless fidelity) motherboards, DigiMatrix desktop, Pundit desktop barebone system and Asus Server AP170-E1. The company is also looking at partnerships with software firms to expand its presence.
