Air India to link Mumbai-Los Angeles

Mumbai , April 8

AIR India today announced its decision to start new flights to Los Angeles on the west coast of the US from June 11.

To begin with the airline will operate three flights per week on the Mumbai-Frankfurt-Los Angeles sector which will be increased to five flights per week in October and then, daily flights by March next year, the Air India Chairman and Managing Director, Mr V. Thulasidas, said here today.

Addressing a gathering of travel agents and tour operators, he said the airline would introduce a Boeing 747-400 aircraft on the Mumbai-LA sector.

Mr Thulsidas said the airline would increase its capacity by taking more aircraft on lease.

An airline source said the two-way fare from Mumbai to LA would be around Rs 58,000.

The airline, which currently has a fleet of 33 aircraft, including 14 aircraft on lease, intends to take two more 747-400s and one A310 this year, the source said.
