Power tillers' concern over excise levy on implements

Our Bureau

Bangalore , April 9

THE Power Tiller Manufacturers' Association has expressed surprise over the move to levy excise duty on the implements.

In a representation, the association said that the Central Excise Department's move to levy 16 per cent duty on the implements claiming it was nothing but a tractor has caused serious concern in the industry.

The manufacturers have filed an appeal against the order of the Central Excise Department before the CESTAT (Tribunal).

The association has also pointed out that imported power tiller has escaped any additional levy like countervailing duty, thus creating a hardship to the industry due to considerable price differential.
