New Delhi , April 9

THE INDIAN Airlines market share of domestic passenger traffic slipped to 41.8 per cent in 2002-03 from 47 per cent during the corresponding previous period.

The drop in share comes despite the airline having posted a rise in the number of flights operated daily and the number of passengers carried each day during the year compared to the previous year.

This data has appeared in the latest edition of `India Air Transport Statistics 2002-03', released by the Director-General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).

On the other hand, the market share of Jet Airways has marginally gone up to 48.4 per cent during the year under review compared to 48 per cent recorded earlier.

While IA carried 15,130 domestic passengers per day, Jet carried 17,539.

In 2001-02, IA had carried 15,591 passengers per day against 15,944 by Jet Airways.

The number of flights operated by IA in 2002-03 stood at 241 flights per day against 238 operated by Jet. In 2001-02, IA operated 223 flights per day while Jet operated 219.

While there was a drop in the number of domestic passengers carried per day by IA in 2002-03, the scenario was the opposite in the number of international passengers carried by it per day.
