IT Training Providing soft skills through e-learning Sankar Radhakrishnan
Thiruvananthapuram , April 11 FOR States such as Kerala, where education is a very important aspect of life, e-learning is likely to emerge as an important educational tool over the next few years, says Mr Karthik K.S., Managing Director, 24x7, Learning Solutions Pvt. Ltd. According to him, the demand for `soft skills' in Kerala is going to increase considerably over the next several years. And the best method of providing these `soft skills' is to opt for the e-learning route, he adds. Soft skills do not mean communication skills alone, but also include aspects such as customer service skills, leadership skills, team skills and so on. However, there is a need to market the usefulness of e-learning in Kerala. People in the State, especially, the younger generation need to understand the benefits that e-learning offers them. And while age in itself is not a barrier to its spread, resistance to change can prove to be a roadblock, he believes. In this context, the measures taken by the State Government to set up the Kerala Employability Enhancement Resources Programme are a welcome step in the effort to take e-learning to the public at large. Similarly, the corporate sector in Kerala is also showing a lot of interest in adopting e-learning programmes, Mr Karthik adds.
