Mangalore , April 12

A FORUM of non-governmental organisations (NGOs), comprising `Nagarika Seva Trust', `Krishikara Vedike', `Dakshina Kannada Parisarasaktara Okkoota' and `Karavali Mahila Jagruti Vedike', will hold a face-to-face meeting with the candidates of Belthangady Assembly Constituency at Guruvayanakere in Dakshina Kannada district on April 16.

Recently, the forum brought out a "people's manifesto" highlighting the issues in agricultural and industrial sectors in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts. With regard to Belthangady taluk, the "manifesto" suggested that vented dams and soak pits be constructed to help recharge water table. An environmental-friendly mini hydroelectric project could also be considered for the taluk. Political parties were asked to work for setting up a hospital for beedi workers in the taluk.

According to a forum press release, the candidates would be asked to express their views on the issues raised in the "people's manifesto", at the meeting.
