Hyderabad , April 13

THE Governor, Mr Surjit Singh Barnala, will give away the ninth INTACH (Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage) awards to six well-conserved and preserved sites on April 18 in Hyderabad.

The awards will cover heritage buildings, lakes, gardens and precincts in and around the State capital.

``As many as 182 nominations were received this year as against 50 in 1996,'' Mr Sushil Kumar, Convenor of INTACH's Hyderabad chapter, said.

Addressing a news conference here on Tuesday, he said a screening committee headed by Mr Sajjad Sahid shortlisted 24 for visits by the jury, which picked the award winning heritage sites.

The jury comprised Mr E.F.N. Ribeiro, Director of Delhi-based Association of Metropolitan Development Authorities, and Mr Syed Anwar Aziz, a senior architect.

The Governor would also release Heritage Annual - 2004, a document focussing on some facets of Hyderabad.
