Autonomy contrasted

This is with reference to "IIMs, IDFC: Power and autonomy contrasted" (Business Line, April 13):

There is no doubt about the fact that the IDFC's top brass has put the Government on the back-foot on the autonomy issue by taking an aggressive stand and putting their careers on the firing line.

The IIMs have been clean bowled by the Government's googly on the fee-cut and autonomy issue. This clearly highlights that there is "Many a slip between the cup and lip", when it comes to leadership issues and case studies being taught in classrooms at top B-schools and the same being practised by the institutions, when push comes to shove.

The fact that clearly emerges from the episode is that the IIM-A board is the only one fighting it out with the Government on this critical issue.
