Delhi exporters plea to restore 80HHC benefits

Our Bureau

New Delhi , April 14

THE Delhi Exporters' Association (DEA) have demanded the restoration of full tax exemption on export profits under Section 80HHC of the Income Tax Act to tide over the current difficulties, which includes high transaction cost and the recent appreciation of the rupee against the US dollar.

The association has also suggested that the income tax on sale of Duty Entitlement Passbook (DEPB) licenses be waived, immediately with retrospective effect.

The DEA President, Mr S.P. Agarwal, held that thousands of tiny, small and medium exporters might soon be forced to stop their export activities, as exports are no longer profitable for them.

He even suggested that the value of a US dollar should be pegged at Rs 45 and that of Euro at Rs 55 so that exporters are sure what they are going to get from their export transactions.
