Mumbai , April 14 FOR years the Bombay Stock Exchange has been the indicator of the country's economic growth. Having hauled share prices to record highs and depths over the last 125 years, Asia's old stock exchange, The Stock Exchange, Mumbai (BSE) has become health conscious - not of the economy, but the physical health of its employees. The exchange has opened a gymnasium on the top floor (29th) of the PJ Towers on Dalal Street that houses BSE. The gymnasium was opened recently by the exchange for its staffers. However, members of the exchange are not allowed to use it. On the new initiative of the exchange, the BSE spokesperson said the move is aimed to facilitate employees of the exchange to keep fit and healthy. The gymnasium will be open for use by officers and the management trainees of the exchange, the spokesperson said. The response from the exchange officials has also been excellent to the new health initiative. They said, "It is good to have such a facility in the office as it is very difficult for them to spare time for these activities and also the cost of such facilities is very high outside. But with a gymnasium in the office premises, a few minutes of workout will not only help them keep fit but also improve their productivity." A senior official of the exchange said: "Earlier, I used to walk on Marine Drive but now I can go to the gymnasium that too during the office hours." Other than the health aspects, the location of the gymnasium is also attractive as it is at the top floor of the building giving a good view of the sea and city while exercising. Human resources experts said that more and more companies are offering such facilities to their staffers in the office premises. "With increasing work pressure, companies have realised that such facilities not only increase employee productivity, but also help them to remain fit," said an HR consultant. Several companies, especially into the financial services business have been providing similar facilities to their staffers. Some of the companies providing such facility include Prudential ICICI Mutual Fund, ICICI Bank, Hindustan Lever Ltd and GIC.
