Mumbai , April 16

KINTOP Pictures, which has got the mandate to release Mel Gibson's film Passion of the Christ, has secured clearance from the Indian censor board without any cuts but under the `adults only' category.

The film, which depicts the last 12 hours of Jesus Christ's life, will open in India on May 7. "However, we are releasing the film in phases in a limited manner with just 50 prints. We commence with the South and Mumbai and take it up to Delhi later," Mr Suri Gopalan, Vice-President (Distributions), Kintop Pictures, said.

Kintop Pictures has been holding screenings for the clergy across the country. "The cardinals and the archbishops are very much behind us on this film," Mr Deepak Nayar, President, Kintop Pictures, said.

The film stars James Caviezel as Jesus and Maia Morgenstern as Mary. The film is directed by Mel Gibson and produced by Bruce Davey.

According to Mr Nayar, the film is an extremely powerful portrayal of the last 12 hours of Jesus.
