New Projects DB Power sets up new UPS unit Our Bureau
Pune , April 16 AMIDST scorching summer and truant power supply by the electricity boards, the Pune-based DB Power Electronics (P) Ltd has set up a 40,000 sq ft UPS (uninterrupted power supply) manufacturing facility at Ramtekdi Industrial Area in Hadapsar in Pune to cater to the increasing demand of the systems. Talking to presspersons, Mr Dilip Bhide, Chairman and Managing Director, DB Power Electronics, said the Rs 4.4-crore facility would house test equipments, electrical loading platforms, PCB assembly line, modern research and development facility, centre for documentation and computerised stores with material handling facility. The investment for the facility is being partly financed by the financial institutions and the rest being contributed from the internal accruals, he said. According to a study conducted by them, the company's requirement is close to 40,000 sq ft by March 2008, which would help them sustain the growth rate of 30 per cent per annum. The new facility is in addition to their existing facility of 7,000 sq ft in the city. The company also has a manufacturing facility at Satara in Maharashtra, which catered to the small component units. Looking at the financials of the company, Mr Dilip said the company had grown from a turnover of Rs 5 crore in 1995 to Rs 48 crore in 2002-03. The company is estimating a turnover of Rs 59 crore for the year ended March 2004, an increase of about 23 per cent. He noted that the company is estimating a growth rate of 22 per cent for the current fiscal. Giving an idea about the UPS market in the country, he said the total power electronic industries revenue generation is estimated to be around Rs 2,400 crore out of which 70 per cent came in from the UPS business, close to Rs 1,700 crore. The organised segment brought in revenues close to Rs 700 crore and the remaining came in from the semi-organised and unorganised sectors. He noted that the market drivers for this included growth in IT and ITES sectors followed by growth in telecom and health care areas. It is estimated that the growth in the UPS business within the next three years would touch 15 per cent on an average. Today with a work force of 425 personnel and 35 offices spread across the country, the company manufacturers UPS systems ranging from 1KVA to 500 KVA, which is used for power conditioning of a total manufacturing plant and solar voltaic cells.
