THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Personal Banking branch of State Bank of India at Kesavadasapuram here has created a national record of sorts by becoming the first branch to sanction 1,000 car loans over the last five years. The Chief General Manager (Kerala Circle), SBI, Mr C. Narasimhan, handed over the 1,000th car loan sanction letter and delivered the vehicle to Mr Sukumara Pillai, an employee of the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd, at a function held at the branch the other day. Sanction letters were also handed over to 11 other car loan customers. Speaking on the occasion, Mr Narasimhan said SBI had been giving thrust to retail loans, such as car loans, personal loans and educational loans. The bank had been able to substantially hike its share in the retail segment in the last three to four years. The Kerala Circle crossed the Rs 10,000-crore mark in business as on March 31 this year, including over Rs 3,000 crore in advances.
