Hyderabad , April 19

DR Reddy's Laboratories on Monday announced the launch of Dutas (generic name Dutasteride), a drug for the treatment of enlarged prostrate.

The Hyderabad-based pharma major is the first company to launch the product in the Indian market, according to a company press release.

"Dutas addresses the medical need of not only managing the symptoms but also helps in arresting the progression of the disease," said Mr Jaspal Singh Bajwa, President of Dr Reddy's branded formulations business.

In a press release here, Mr Bajwa said, "Dr Reddy's was also the first company to introduce medical management of symptomatic enlarged prostrate in India with the launch of its brand Finast (generic name Finasteride) in 1996."

Symptomatic enlarged prostrate affects around 55 per cent of men over the age of 50 and almost 90 per cent of men over the age of 70 worldwide. In India, there are over 77 million men over the age of 60 who are affected by the disease.
