Bhilai Steel completes long-rail project

Kolkata , April 20

BHILAI Steel Plant (BSP), part of Steel Authority of India Ltd, has produced the first 80-metre-long rail at its long-rail finishing complex, a couple of days back.

Earlier, BSP was producing rails up to 13 metres and 26 metres in length. However, with the completion of Rs 400-crore Long Rails Finishing Facilities Project, BSP can now produce up to 260 metre lengths, according to a press release from the plant.

The long rail plant of BSP was designed by Vai Pomini of Austria, the global leader in long rail technology, and the UK-based Corus Consultancies. The plant has already produced over two-lakh km of long rails.
