Software Synopsys to expand India operations V. Rishi Kumar
Hyderabad , April 20 SYNOPSYS Inc, a $1.2-billion semiconductor design software and system-on-chip solutions company, has drawn up plans to expand its India operations by about 30 per cent this year. This would see a larger role for Hyderabad and Bangalore centres in the creation of Intellectual Property (IP). The Senior Vice-President of Synopsys Inc, Mr Manoj Gandhi, and President and Managing Director of Synopsys India Pvt. Ltd, Dr Pradip K. Dutta, who were in Hyderabad to oversee the company's expansion plans, told Business Line that the Hyderabad centre would be expanded in the areas of product development, IP creation and global maintenance work. "The company had acquired Avanti and thereby secured access to its development centre based in Hyderabad. Thereafter, we have acquired several other companies in specific areas of EDA (electronic design automation) space, and by this means, we will further expand our product development role as we integrate to Synopsys product line," Mr Gandhi explained. Synopsys currently has about 130 people in Bangalore and 100 developers in Hyderabad centre and a marketing team in New Delhi. The Hyderabad centre would see the addition of about 30 people in the near term. The company had invested about $2 million over last year or so in India and could possibly invest similar amount in the R&D and maintenance support teams. "With major clients such as Intel, Texas Instruments, Motorola, STMicro, on one side and several companies in the embedded systems business, we see India and China as two focus growth areas where the development-cum-support team will play a decisive role", Dr Dutta explained. Synopsys continues to grow strategically through acquisitions. Apart from the major acquisition of Avanti, it followed this route for several other companies in specific areas of focus in the EDA solutions space. These include Insilico, which is into IP space, CoDesign that addresses verification, ADA that focuses on analog and mixed signal processing business.
