Aptech eyes 50 pc growth in China

V. Rishi Kumar

Hyderabad , April 20

WITH over 100 centres in the `Land of the Dragon', Aptech Ltd, now plans to expand to 20 more centres in China and grow the IT training business by about 50 per cent this year.

The Chairman and Managing Director of Aptech, Mr Pramod Khera, told Business Line "within three years of entering China, we have managed to garner 8.7 per cent market share of the training market with revenues of $30.23 million.

"The growth in the Chinese market would be driven by two thrust areas. While we would continue to expand our existing centres, we are in the process of establishing more centres and also rolling out courses in the areas of multimedia training, networking and communications segments. Majority of the courses are taught in the native language while complementing some training in English through the joint venture partner," he said.

Aptech commenced operations in China in 2000 through its joint venture with Beijing University- Aptech Beida Jadebird IT Co. Ltd. A study by the Chinese Ministry of Information Industry, found Aptech share at 8.7 per cent followed by NIIT at 6.35 per cent in 2003 in the Chinese IT training and education market.
