Rural-urban divide

The article "PURA: Bridging the rural-urban divide" (Business Line, April, 21) rightly states that each State should have a PURA corporation — with representatives from small-scale industries, financial institutions, cooperatives, technical persons and representatives of panchayats — to prepare a roadmap for rural development.

Another category of persons who may be involved in the active participation of the PURA scheme is the students. Statistics reveal that more than one-third of the colleges in India have been established in rural areas and that 40 per cent of those graduating from these colleges are rural youth. Active participation of these knowledgeable and dynamic youth will make PURA highly effective.
