Cisco to enable networks to handle security threats

CISCO systems introduced its `self defending network' security strategy for the $41.3-million Indian network market.

Targeted at the enterprise and the service provider segments, the solution and strategy will enable the network to autonomously identify, prevent and adapt to a range of security threats, said Mr Naresh Wadhwa, V-P, India and SAARC, Cisco Systems.

"The entire approach is built around the idea that human intervention is no longer sufficient to stem attacks that IT systems are subjected to — so that networks must be enabled to deal with threats on their own," said Mr Wadhwa.

According to the Frost and Sullivan 2004 Network security market report, Indian is the fastest growing market in the Asia-Pacific region $29.9 million in 2003 and is expected to be $1.42 billion by 2010 at a CAGR of 25 per cent.

Banks and financial institutions followed by the service provider and software export companies were the largest verticals in terms of adoption, said Mr Anand Rangachary, Deputy Director, Frost & Sullivan. Large enterprises were the major buyers, he said .
