AI board reviews low-cost carrier plan

Our Bureau

Mumbai , April 21

THE Air India board, which met here on Wednesday, reviewed the proposal for setting up a low-cost airline.

Sources said that the main reason why the proposal was not put through today was that the Election Code of Conduct does not allow for the Government-owned airline to make any major decision till the elections are over. Sources said the Indian Airlines representative on the board had raised some objection to the proposal. Questions have been raised on the merit of operating a low-cost carrier when similar projects by large airlines elsewhere had failed.
