Indo-South Africa `CEOs Forum' planned

Chennai , April 22

INDIAN and South African business bodies have mooted the idea of setting up a `CEOs Forum', under the auspices of which CEOs of companies from both countries can meet regularly, according to the South African High Commissioner in India, Ms Maite E Nkoana-Mashabane.

Speaking at a meeting on `Doing business with South Africa - 10 years after Independence', organised by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) on Thursday, she said that the ongoing talks for a trilateral tie-up among India, South Africa and Brazil would benefit all the three countries.

Other officials from the South African High Commission said that South Africa was the world's largest producer of platinum and a major producer of gold.

Both these metals are of use in jewellery and therefore of interest to India, one of world's leading jewellery consumers.

South Africa has agreements with the EU and other sub-Saharan countries for preferential trade.
