Telecommunications Marketing - New Products & Services Samsung rolls out new GSM handsets Our Bureau
New Delhi , April 23 IN a bid to increase its market share in the fast growing Indian GSM handsets market, Samsung India Electronics on Friday launched four GSM handsets in the price range of Rs 8,699 and Rs 14,599. The company announced that it would introduce another 25 models in the second half of the year. One of the models comes with a multi-language display and input in Hindi, Tamil and Marathi. The handset sales (GSM and CDMA) contributed to around 10 per cent of the Samsung India's total turnover of Rs 3,708 crore last year, said Mr K.S. Kim, President & CEO, Samsung India Electronics. The company expects the telecom division's contribution to increase to 20 per cent of the targeted Rs 5,300 crore turnover this year. Also, with the replacement market expanding at a brisk pace, Samsung expects to sell 25 million handsets this year compared to 12 million during 2003. Samsung also said that it has tied up with cellular operators AirTel, Idea and Oasis for bundling of handsets with the connections.
