KCCI plea to Govt

MANGALORE: The Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) has urged the Government to declare Sunday, May 2, as working day for those working in industrial sector.

A press release by the KCCI President, Mr R.D. Kini, said here on Saturday that the Government has declared April 26 as holiday for those working in industrial sector in the region. Polling for the Assembly and Lok Sabha constituencies in the region will be held on April 26.

Stating that the industrial sector is ready to help workers cast their votes, Mr Kini said that the Government should have made provisions for interchanging holiday on poll day for the weekly holiday. This would have helped workers as well as the industry in the region. Stopping the work for a day would cause heavy loss to the industry.

Considering this, the Government should declare next Sunday as working day, he said.

The Government should look into the production loss to the industrial sector while announcing such holidays, the release added.
